Everyone deserves a Plan B
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
- Proverbs 31:8-9
The Plan B Foundation, started by Carrie Brockie and Johnathan Smith, was formed after Carrie watched her husband struggle for many years finding good labor in the construction industry. At that time Carrie had just met Johnathan, who is originally from the west side of Chicago with many of his own struggles, he was looking for a second chance and a chance to learn a trade to support that would himself and his family. Together Carrie and Johnathan started The Plan B Foundation.
The Plan B Foundation does small labor jobs for customers and takes those opportunities to train their participants to learn to use different types of tools and learn skills that will help them become employable in the labor market.
The Plan B Foundation also has a "Back to Basics" program where we help those that have been incarcerated work through some of the issues that hold them back from holding a full time job such as accountability, desire to work, developing skill and their work ethic. We work through this program and then help them find meaningful employment.
The Plan B Foundation was to help ex-offenders bridge the gap between obtaining full time employment and keeping that job long term. When you don’t have full time employment modeled to you your whole life, it becomes difficult to understand what you need to do everyday to keep your job. The Plan B Foundation helps to teach and support each participant as they navigate through learning how to work all the time.
