History
Carrie Brockie founded The Plan B Foundation. Through a close family friend, she realized the need for formerly incarcerated individuals to be provided a route to enable their success. Carrie knew that giving these individuals a path to success would better their lives and society generally. She researched various models of reentry programs. Carrie saw that work was a crucial service provided by some programs built to help these individuals succeed once released. But she noticed a pattern – an essential, missing component in each of them. There was no program she found in Chicago that provided work and taught formerly incarcerated individuals step by step how to work full time. Working full time is something that is taught by modeled behavior, but not everyone is taught the lessons necessary to be successful in their formative years. Carrie realized that unemployment was a cycle, and to make these individuals successful and society safer, she would need to break that cycle.
So she founded The Plan B Foundation on a different model than the rest, a model that would break the cycle of unemployment formerly incarcerated individuals face because she believes everyone deserves a second chance to support themselves, their families, and the community. She founded The Plan B Foundation so that she could work with each participant, with an individualized program that transformed them, until they internalized the importance of working.

Carrie Brockie, Founder
Carrie first envisioned The Plan B Foundation’s mission in 2019. After years of spending time in the insurance business, Carrie wanted more meaning in her life. She had always been passionate about helping people but then saw first-hand through a close friend the challenges that people who had been incarcerated face when reintegrating into society. She knew that this was her call to action, an area where her passion to help people intersected with a problem that wasn’t being addressed.
